History

The Canton Club was founded in 1907 as an exclusive Business Men’s Club. It was housed in the St Francis Hotel, which was located across the street from its current location. In 1923, the club relocated to the top floors of the First National Bank Building. Today, the building is known as the Chase Tower and is the tallest building in Stark County.

The Canton Club Event Center maintains the eloquence and prestige as it did in the early 1900’s. The Event Center is located on the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth floors. Each floor has a unique atmosphere and setting.

The twelfth floor contains the administrative offices and several decorative rooms. The McKinley Room contains memorabilia from President William McKinley. Its decor has a working fireplace, decorative furniture, and a small bar. It offers a unique setting for a small private affair. Also on the twelfth floor is William R. Day Room. It too has a working fireplace with a hand carved wooden mantle. The original purpose of the room was a reading area. Part of the room contains a large china closet houses artifacts and memorabilia from the original Canton Club. The Day Room can accommodate up to sixty guests. The Day Room is perfect for bridal showers, small gatherings, and can serve as a wedding chapel. The Grill and Oak Room, which is located next to the William R. Day Room, served as a card room for members. It has the original wrought iron chandeliers, wing backed leather chairs, unique handmade wooden shutters, and bar. Today it serves as gathering spot for when the Center is open to the public for special events. The Grill and Oak Room offers beautiful views facing the southern part of Canton and Stark County. The Grill and Oak Room can accommodate over seventy guests.

The thirteenth floor was known as The Presidents Room. Originally it was utilized for business meetings and a billiard area. Today it serves as a bride and groom room for special events.

The fourteenth floor is home to the Main Ballroom and Terrace Rooms. Collectively, it can accommodate over one hundred and seventy guests. The design of the room was developed by Frank L. Packard, from Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Packard was a well known architect throughout the United Sates. Off the Main Ballroom and Terrace Rooms is an outdoor patio that circles the north and east sides of the Chase Towers. The outdoor patio was originally known as the Roof Top Garden. It offers spectacular outdoor views of downtown and the Stark County area. All the floors in the Event Center are finished in Tennessee Marble. The exterior is Indiana Limestone and the top of the building are finished in terra cotta.
